SUPERHERO

 

In today’s world, filled with lot of crime against women, a superhero who can change this is vital. People often look at old grannies as weak and who are just counting their days. However, what if a Granny saves the world!!!

“Granny Cool”, that is what she likes to be called, is a modern era grandmother who has the superpower to save girls who are sexually harassed or assaulted in any way and she is the symbol of empowering grandmothers by showing the various possibilities they have in life (age is just a number!!!). Her superpower includes the ability to sense when girls are in danger (anywhere within India), she can fly and bash up all the perpetrators and abusers! However, Granny Cool has a flaw, she is bounded by superstitions. When a black cat passes by her path, she would go round a block, she even believes in the concept of ‘nazar’ (evil eye) and many other superstitions. This is a drawback faced by a lot of Indians.

Granny Cool, leads a simple life during the day. She plays with her grandchildren, cooks for the family, and spends time with her other granny friends. But at night, or whenever she senses danger, she changes into “Granny Cool” and saves the victims.

Granny Cool has a crazy past! Being a victim of abuse, Granny Cool always wanted to do something about this and bring about a change. She was a usual granny with all the attached old age ailments. One day, she decided to get fit and drank a glass of ‘Women’s’ Horlicks’ and went to the terrace to do Surya namaskar. When she was doing yoga, the nutrients in the Horlicks and the sunrays mixed, had a chemical reaction and- BAM!!!! she turns into ‘Granny Cool’ and gets all powers that she currently owns.

The society sees her as an ordinary grandmother during the day, unaware of her secret powers. The darkness is the enemy of the Sun, similarly, the perpetrators or abusers in the dark are her arch-rivals.

Her costume includes a traditional saree and her saree pallu acts as her cape and helps her fly! The usual everyday utensils are her weapons as she believes that anything and everything can be turned into a weapon when in need! Her sidekick and best friend is her dog- ‘Simba’ who always helps her find the abusers with his super sniffing abilities. Being a dog, he is a naturally a good sniffer but with a tad bit of superpower!

A superhero like Granny Cool is necessary as the rates of crimes against women is increasing everyday and this needs to be resolved! She is also a symbol of empowerment to all the women and grandmothers as she makes them believe that they are worth it and can do their little to make this world a better place to live in!
